Introducing Fremont Theater! Coming October 2016

Hello!  We are David Shur and Johnny Keener and we are excited to announce that we'll be opening our new concert venue, the Fremont Theater, in the Alameda neighborhood of Northeast Portland in October of 2016. The Fremont Theater will be a comfortable, elegant, intimate venue and performing arts space complete with chandelier and red velvet curtain. We will offer a full bar and a small, but tasty, menu.

Our goal is to book artists who have their own unique voices and an adventurous approach, whether the genre is jazz, , indie rock, rockabilly, singer-songwriter, or classical. Our shows will be presented cabaret-style, hosted by an emcee, with the goal of connecting artist and audience in a shared experience. We are also proud to announce that we will be the home of The Portland Story Theater's 2016-2017 season. Mid-morning family music shows will be a regular feature Thursdays-Sundays, featuring Portland favorites such as Red Yarn, Mo Phillips, Penny's Puppets, and Tallulah's Daddy.

Please keep your eyes on this page for further developments as we get ready to open our doors. Scroll down to see some of the great shows we have booked. We're working hard to get ready and we look forward to seeing you in October!

Portland Story Theater's Urban Tellers Series at the Fremont Theater! First show October 7

UNSCRIPTED. UNAFRAID. UNLIKE any other storytelling experience in Portland. Urban Tellers® pushes the boundaries between teller and audience, as stories filled with compassion and truth leave everyone transformed. Urban Tellers® are fueled by the POWER OF THEIR STORIES and the ENERGY OF THE AUDIENCE. Each storyteller has a mere 12 minutes, and listeners are invited to embark on a shared experience that is a potent blend of vulnerability and heart. The stories people tell at Urban Tellers® are always about something that matters, something that changed them, something that made them who they are. Everyone who hears these stories is also changed – transformed – shaped by the truth of the present moment they share with the storytellers.

James Dean Kindle and the Eastern Oregon Playboys - October 14

Mind your tongue if you believe that Eastern Oregon is little more than methamphetamines and rodeo. James Dean Kindle and the Eastern Oregon Playboys roll through town like a tumbleweed, dispensing their haunting sound (think Nick Cave from high desert country) along the way. The Pendleton-based band is touring in support of Campfire Pop Abstraction, a soulful recording that covers a massive swath of musical real estate (Americana, pop, and just about everything in-between) and proves that there just might be life beyond our precious city limits.” -Ezra Ace Caraeff, The Portland Mercury

ANDY MEYERS SINGER/SONGWRITER: THE SCENICS - October 16

In the summer of 1976 Andy Meyers, fresh out of high school, and Ken Badger, working at the local music store, met and started The Scenics. Inspired by raw underground rock and new sounds, they began writing songs that defined THEIR sound — chancy, risky,  with big pop choruses, gear-stripping guitar and rhythmic bomp. Lyrics that took in the world from the other side of "normal.”

These songs were never released back in the day, but now they are collected on In The Summer, which has it’s USA LP/CD release thru Light in the Attic Records on June 17th, 2016.

As the only Scenic in the “West is the Best” club, Andy's going to bring his fluid guitar attack and tuneful, impassioned vocals to a string of solo shows from Seattle to southern Oregon. He’ll be playing Scenics songs as well as songs that step just outside of Scenic territory. It will be Electric and Acoustic-- alive and happening in real time. We're honored to host him at the Fremont Theater!
